Phase 2

The Washington Nationals have had few bright spots since they moved in from Montreal. Their current ownership is trying to change the direction of the franchise between high priced draft picks like Stephen Strasburg and Bryce Harper and the signing of Jayson Werth for 7 years, $126 million. Suddently the Nats are being talked about as a possible landing spot for Cliff Lee, something people scoffed at before the Werth signing. Werth has already won a championship, so being on a sure fire winner might not be as big of a factor for him as it is to Lee, so the Nationals will have to throw some other things besides ridiculous money in there. Here are some of the rumored incentives the Nationals will use in their pitch to Lee:

– Lee gets to take out any frustration in life from the sad sack Teddy Roosevelt from the Presidents Race.
– The Nationals have Ivan Rodriguez as their catcher. Not only is he a legend at the position, but his nickname is Pudge, and that’s always funny.
– Lee can make personnel decisions for the Washington Redskins.
– Since Lee loves to hunt he is allowed to hunt Albert Haynesworth.
– Allowed to meet the secret shadow government that really runs the country.
– Activate the missile that the Washington Monument really is.
– Nyjer Morgan will run any errand for him.
– The ability to rename the Washington Wizards whatever he wants.
– The chance to see what a sellout crowd looks like only days he pitches, Strasburg pitches, or the Phillies are in town.

Between the blank check they’re offering and these incentives the Nationals really like their chances at getting Cliff Lee.
